 |  | In dieser Ausgabe kümmern wir uns um so genannte Countable (zählbar) und UNcountable (UNzählbar) nouns (Hauptwörter).
Countable nouns betreffen solche Hauptwörter, die wir zählen können:
| trees, chairs, cups usw. Uncountable nouns sind z.B. sugar, air, knowledge, accommodation. Meistens haben sie keine Pluralform und man kann sie nicht mit den englischen Artikeln "a" oder "an" verwenden. Stattdessen benutzt man sie mit Wörtern wie "some, a lot of, a lot of, a piece of".
Hier sind einige Beispielsätze:
- I need some advice – do you know a good lawyer? (never
"an advice") - How many pieces of baggage are you checking in, sir?
- I ate a slice of bread for breakfast (never
"a bread") - Do you have any news about our flight? (never
"a news") - I’m sorry I’m late, there was so much traffic! (never
"so many traffics")
Der häufigste Fehler bezieht sich auf das Wort "information". Immer wieder hört man Sätze wie "I need some InformationS about your products". Dies ist jedoch falsch! "information" bleibt immer im Singular, auch wenn man "Informationen" meint. Richtig ist also:
- Can you give me some information about flights toEngland?
(never “an information”) - I’m sorry, we aren’t allowed to give out any information about prices
- Thank you, I think I have all the information I need for now
